While riding around the docks on my motorcycle in San Pedro, California in the mid 1980's, I saw a huge mast sticking up and went to investigate. That's where I first saw the Brigantine Romance and met 'Captain Kimberly and his wife. They were in port getting a new diesel engine which was going to take a few months. Then they were sigining on passengers for a world cruise. The cruise was 18 months and 35,000 sea miles long. You started off the coast in Mexico and caught the tradewinds west...and the rest is a mystery.
I was fortunate to be invited on board (I have a phobia about tall ships) and fell in love with the concept and went back to my place and wrote this song for them as a gift. I recorded it and gave Captain Kimberly the Cassette and lyrics. When he played it on the ship, it was such a reward when his eyes lit up as he heard his name in the song.
